Northwestern President Mung Chiang Visits NUANCE Center

On Friday, September 11, 2026, Northwestern University President Mung Chiang visited the NUANCE Center to tour the facilities and learn more about the research, instrumentation, and expertise that support research and innovation across Northwestern and beyond.

During his visit, President Chiang met with NUANCE Center Director Vinayak Dravid and members of the NUANCE team. The tour provided an opportunity to highlight NUANCE’s advanced characterization capabilities, instrumentation, and the expertise of its staff, as well as the broad community of users who access the center’s resources.

As Northwestern’s open-access characterization center, NUANCE supports researchers and students across disciplines, while also providing access to startups, industry partners, national labs, and other external users. Through state-of-the-art instrumentation, training, and technical expertise, NUANCE helps users investigate materials and biological samples at the nanoscale and advance their research and ideas.

President Chiang’s visit offered an opportunity to showcase the unique role NUANCE plays in Northwestern’s research community, connecting users with the tools and expertise needed to explore new questions and possibilities. NUANCE also provides undergraduate students with opportunities to gain hands-on experience using advanced research instrumentation.
