NUANCE Hosts SciHigh Students for Scanning Electron Microscopy Demo
On June 29, the NUANCE Center welcomed six high school students participating in the SciHigh Summer Program for a scanning electron microscopy (SEM) demonstration led by EPIC Facility Manager Tirzah Abbott.
During the session, students were introduced to SEM fundamentals and observed how electron microscopy is used to examine materials and the valuable role it plays in research.
The SciHigh Summer Program, organized by Northwestern’s George O’Brien Kidney Research Core Center (NUGoKidney), is an immersive enrichment experience designed to support highly motivated high school students interested in science. Through mentored research internships, students are matched with scientists and labs aligned with their interests to develop practical research skills and gain exposure to real-world scientific work.
Through programs like SciHigh, NUANCE is proud to support early-stage STEM education and provide meaningful access to advanced research instrumentation.
