What's It Made Of? MASCARA
EPIC Microscopy and Imaging Specialist, Eric Miller, takes a closer look at mascara. Two elements commonly found in mascara are: silicon (an anti-clumping agent) and iron (in oxide form, it gives the black color). Below, we see the eyelash in its natural state. The eyelash in the second image has a layer of mascara. The brightly colored specks are iron-oxide imaged with backscatter emission detector.
