Changes to NUANCE's Safety Policy

NUANCE has added two items to its safety policy in an effort to create the safest environment possible for its users.

Effective immediately, safety glasses are now required in the following areas:

  • When using fume hoods in the NUANCE Center
  • In the EPIC Sample Preparation Facility area behind red tape, i.e., the area that houses tools such as the electropolishing and polishing equipment, CPD, and Os coater.

Safety glasses are available in these areas. Please ask a lab manager if you need help finding them. Absolutely no open chemical containers are allowed outside these designated areas.

By October 1, 2012, all Northwestern University NUANCE users must have completed each of the following Office for Research Safety training courses before using any of the NUANCE facilities:

Please send confirmation of completion of these courses to Eric Miller, NUANCE's Microscopy & Imaging Specialist, at eric-miller@northwestern.edu. If confirmation of completion of the courses has not been received by October 1, 2012, you will lose access to all NUANCE facilities. All new users will be required to complete these courses before gaining access to any facilities.

Thank you for your understanding and compliance as we strive to make NUANCE as safe as possible. If you have any questions, please contact Eric Miller at 847.467.0789.
