Hysitron
Triboindenter
Nanomechanics of Hard and Soft Materials
The Hysitron TriboIndenter is a complete automated nanomechanical test system, ideal for measuring
the hardness and elastic modulus of both hard and soft materials including biological
specimens. It provides
quantitative nanomechanical testing capabilities with the convenience of modern
automation. Available in normal and lateral force loading configurations, the Triboindenter
revolutionizes the sub-micron scale testing arena with real-time data
collection and nanometer resolution in-situ SPM imaging.

Optional Capabilities
- Dynamic modulus mapping—Nano DMA provides quantitative
viscoelastic information, such as storage and loss modulus, from polymers to
biomaterials at the nanoscale.
- Modulus mapping—Modulus mapping provides the elastic mapping of the surface
at the nanoscale.
- Visco-elastic measurements—
- Heating and cooling stage—A thermal stage for the Triboindenter allows both heating
and cooling of samples for nanomechanical characterization. The thermal range ofthis tool is from -10 ¡C to 200 ¡C makes it ideal for
testing the temperature dependent properties of biomaterials, polymers and many
semiconductor materials that are utilized at non-ambient temperatures. Frequent sweep at constant load
- Feedback control—Feedback control provides closed loop load or displacement
control. This capability provides the means of
performing traditional tests utilized for visoelastic property measurements of
biomaterials and polymers, such as creep and stress relaxation tests.
